The Location

Scotland’s Most Easterly Distillery

Bon Accord Distillery will be located right at the mouth of the River Dee, only half a mile from Aberdeen South Harbour. The site was once a Bon-Accord drinks plant — a prominent soft drink manufacturer in Scotland. The distillery will include a whisky production area, a food court, a retail area, and visitor facilities, with striking views over the harbour.

£420m Infrastructure

Aberdeen South Harbour

Completed August 2023, the £420 million Aberdeen South Harbour expansion is the largest marine infrastructure project in Trust Port history. The expanded capacity has significantly increased cruise calls to the city. This most easterly placed Scottish distillery is perfectly set to benefit from the increased cruise ship arrivals and upsurge of tourism in the area.

The preferred barley for The Macallan, the award-winning Yamazaki Distillery in Japan, and Glengoyne Distillery.

“As the UK’s oldest existing business, we know what it means to adapt and rise to the challenges of tomorrow.”— Bob Sanguinetti, CEO, Port of Aberdeen

Aberdeen — Birthplace of Whisky?

Where It All Began

In July 2019, historians discovered the first recorded mention of a whisky still. Dr Claire Hawes from the University of Aberdeen found a text listing “ane stellatour for aquavite and ros wattir” among Sir Andrew Gray’s possessions. The Port of Aberdeen was established in 1136 — the oldest existing business in Britain.

Home of the Chivas Brothers

Chivas Brothers traces its origins back to Aberdeen in 1801. Chivas Regal was first blended at 13–19 King Street, Aberdeen.

The Bon Accord Motto

Aberdeen’s motto, “Bon Accord,” stems from Robert the Bruce’s use of it as a secret password during the Wars of Scottish Independence.

Scotch Whisky Tourism

The World’s Most Popular Dram. The Fastest-Growing Tourism Category.

In 2023, whisky visitor centres in Scotland saw more than 2 million visitors and generated over £85 million in visitor spending. Scotch Whisky visitor centres are collectively the most popular tourist attraction in Scotland. UHNWI typically arrive at Aberdeen Airport via private jet — and Bon Accord is the first distillery before the journey to Speyside.
